Khama Billiat who returned from international retirement last week was on song for Zimbabwe as he was the man of the match in Zimbabwe’s camp who gave headaches to former African Cup of Nations (Afcon) champions Cameroon in the country’s second qualifier match. The warriors sadly played in Uganda instead of back home for lack of Caf certified facilities, were they were the home team in the absence of an approved stadium to host international games back home their second 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the indomitable lions at Mandela Stadium last evening.
Billiat led the onslaught and was a relentless resilient playmaker with Douglas Mapfumo, Walter Musona and Prince Dube all coming close to scoring but they either rushed their efforts or got tame shots on Manchester United stoppers Onana’s goal.
With the Uganda stadium lit in Manchester United red devil shirts coming in numbers for Onana, Cameroon had some chances of their own too but Zimbabwe were equal to the task as Zimbabwe’s stopper made light work of Abubakar and the Cameroonians.
The Warriors are now on two points, third on the log with Cameroon (four) leading Group J and Kenya (three) second while Namibia anchor the standings with no points after losing their opening two games to Cameroon and Kenya by identical 1-0 scorelines.
Zimbabwe gaffer, German coach Michael Nees’ crash-program Morocco 2025 campaign begins next month with Zimbabwe taking on Namibia in back-to-back clashes while Kenya and Cameroon will battle each other twice as well.
Zimbabwe Warriors proudly ground out a thoroughly deserved point against Cameroon, after opening their campaign with another goalless draw with Kenya on Friday at the same venue last week.
Khama Billiat successfully squeezed the point against the Indomitable Lions in a game Michael Nees’ men showed a lot of intent and they could have easily won the game despite being touted as the underdogs.
