Following President Mnangagwa’s repentance on firing Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development whom he re-appointed after his Damascene moment, the President officially swore in the Deputy Minister yesterday at State House in Harare.
The President swore in the Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Deputy Minister Simelisizwe Sibanda while Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, and Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya looked on to witness the occasion at State House in Harare yesterday.
The returned Deputy Minister Sibanda was grateful to President Mnangagwa for giving him another chance which allowed him to learn from his mistakes and grow from them as well.
“I have learnt my lesson and that is how we grow as a people,” he said.
The Deputy Minister said the President exuded loving forging fatherhood by forgiving him and demonstrating his fatherly nature.
“First of all, it shows the confidence His Excellency has in me and it also shows that we have a forgiving Father. It shows that the President is interested in continuity so that we carry forward the tasks he has given to us towards Vision 2030,” he said.
Deputy Minister Sibanda also said he would put shoulder to the wheel in executing his duties making sure Education 5.0 continues to positively change Zimbabwe’s education sector so as to attain what the previous Education 3:0 could not do preparing a more practical student who is hands on toward industrialisation and modernisation.
“That is where we need to improve so that our institutions do not rely on traditional financial issues like fees and Government grants. We need to strengthen other aspects of industrialisation and innovation so that they can raise income from that and churn out graduates who can stand on their own,” he said.
Sibanda said he had learnt his lesson and grown from all his misgivings and misdemeanours that got him relieved of his duties in the first place by the President President on 1 July 2024 before the Head of State pardoned and subsequently reinstated him on 1 August 2024.
