The Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), Presidential Communications, George Charamba’s son, Makanakaishe Charamba lived to his father’s billing and name when he came out second in his 200metres heat alongside his teammate Tapiwa Makarawu who also in his different heat came in second place guaranteeing both qualification in tomorrow’s Semi-final.This happened at the Stade, De France at the ongoing Paris Olympics.
“The feeling is great, I did not have large expectations but just to enjoy myself.
“I’m just going to relax and get back to the drawing board and see my coach and hear what he thinks,” said Charamba when quizzed by the international media at the Olympics.
Makarawu like Charamba was also happy with his performance,
“It’s a good one, we worked hard for it.
“My coach and I had to work on my weaknesses.
“We had almost like one and half weeks to improve from 21:04 to 20:04,” commented Makarawu soon after the exhilarating race.
This means the Zimbabwean duo of Makanakaishe Charamba and Tapiwa Makarawu have an opportunity to break the world’s fastest man, retired sprinter and Jamaican Usain Bolt 200metre signature.
George Charamba’s son finished second in heat 3 with a time of 20.27 seconds, a tight heat race won by Botswana speed star Tebogo Letsile who finished the race in 20.10 seconds.
Tapiwa Makarawu also settled for number 2 with a time of 20.07 seconds, joining Charamba in the semi-finals, from his heat 5.
