2024 Olympics: All Eyes on Charamba’s Son

Today every Zimbabwean’s eyes will be glued on the Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Presidential Communications, 22 year old son Makanaka Charamba who races in his first Olympic trial.

Eyes will also be on the other Zimbabwean track specialist Tapiwa Makarawu.Zimbabwean’s worldwide have been encouraged to support Tapiwa and Maka as they race their heats scheduled at 19:55.

The Men’s 200M will be a marvel to watch Olympics highlights for today with Zimbabweans in the competitive driving seat.

Tapiwanashe Makarawu and Makanakaishe Charamba begin their quest at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games today when they compete in the men’s 200m round one heats at the Stade de France.

The two earned their slots at the Games when running the qualifying times during the qualification period, Charamba qualifying with a time of 20.00 seconds, beating the 20.16 seconds qualifying time as his personal best is 19.95 seconds.Meanwhile Makarawu ran 19.93 seconds to earn his place at the Games, setting a new national record in the process, also his personal best.

The Presidential spokesperson’s sprinter son and his colleague will make their maiden appearance at the quadrennial show-piece.

The politicians son will be the first in action, in heat three where he is up against some of the top contenders such as Letsile Tebogo of Botswana with South Africa’s Benjamin Richardson also in the same heat.

Whilst Makarawu is in heat five where he faces the likes of USA’s Erriyon Knighton, who slightly missed out on medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics when finishing fourth.

Marathon runners Rutendo Nyahora and Isaac Mpofu meanwhile arrived in France day before yesterday ahead of their events scheduled for the weekend.

With so much anticipation, Mpofu will represent the country in the men’s marathon on August 10 and Nyahora will be the last Zimbabwean athlete in competition with the women’s marathon taking place on August 11.
