Citizens Coalition for Change leader Jameson Timba and 80 others appeared before Harare Magistrate Courts facing charges of participating in a gathering with the intent of inciting public violence.
Timba and his accomplices were remanded in custody up to Wednesday 19 June 2024.
They have been charged under Section 37 (1) and 41 (a) of the criminal code, Section 37 (1) said, “Participating in gatherings with the intent to promote public violence, breaches of the peace, or bigotry” and Section 41 (a) “Any person who, without lawful excuse, knowingly has in his or her custody or possession any article for use in unlawful entry into premises, theft, fraud or a contravention of section 57 of the Road Traffic Act”.
This publication has learnt that on Sunday Senator Jameson Timba and the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) youths who were having a private meeting in an Avondale residence were arrested by Armed riot police.
CCC Hatcliff Member of Parliament said, “The regime is hell-bent on stopping the voice of dissent. The gathering intended to commemorate June 16 in South Africa”.
