The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have arrested a suspected serial killer and rapist, Daniel Chauke, in connection with a string of heinous crimes committed in Chipinge and Chimanimani between April 2022 and May 2024.
According to a statement released by the ZRP, Chauke was initially arrested for stock theft and brought to the Chipinge police station, where a search by detectives uncovered a sinister trove of evidence.
“The recovererd items matched the description of the goods stolen at a bushy area along Usanga-Bangazani Road, Chipinge on 26 May 2024 where Cylia Maponese (45) was killed. The suspect was interviewed and admitted to have raped the victim before killing her and stealing a cellphone, various ladies clothes and US$10.00 cash” reads the statements
Further investigation linked him to two additional cases of murder, both involving rape and theft. The first occurred on October 21, 2023, in Chikwanda Village, Usanga location, Chipinge, where a 54-year-old woman was killed, and the second on April 24, 2024, in Matakanyi Village, Chimanimani, where a 32-year-old woman met a similar fate.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any criminal activities to the National Complaints Desk at (0242) 703631 or via WhatsApp at 0712 800 197. Citizens can also report to their nearest police station.
