Gvt Set To Train Teachers On New Curriculum And Syllabus

Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development on Tuesday announced that it will train teachers on the Heritage-Based Education Curriculum and the Syllabus.

In 2021 Government introduced the Continuous Assessment Learning Area (CALA) and it received negative responses as stakeholders in the education sector highlighted the pressure it had on learners, guardians, and teachers.

Earlier this year Cabinet considered and approved the Implementation Plan of the Heritage-Based Education Curriculum as presented by the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Honourable Professor Amos Murwira, as Chairperson of the Cabinet Committee on Human Capital Development, Skills Application and Employment Creation.

Speaking at the Post Cabinet briefing, Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere said, “Teachers will be trained through workshops, circulars, and media for the rationalized learning areas as well as the implications of the modalities by 31 December 2024.

He added that this would be achieved by 2030 saying,” The aim of this is to achieve the goals by 2030. There is a need for the provision of adequate infrastructure such as classrooms, laboratories, internet connectivity, technical equipment, and teacher’s houses. The public is being advised that in order to actualize the aims of the education system, a review of the legal and regulatory infrastructure will be undertaken.

“This shall include the establishing a participatory infrastructure for the continuous Heritage Based education refinements such as the establishment of learning area associations and panels at school, districts and provincial and national level by 31 July 2025”.

“This focuses on checking for compliance in the implementation through monitoring and evaluation that promotes the strengthening of the school-based continuous assessment and documentation of the best practices which will be currently ongoing to 31 December 2030”.

The Cabinet also announced that the Implementation Plan will commence in May 2024 and is anchored on the five main pillars, namely:
1. Programmes/ Curriculum infrastructure;
2. Staffing or workforce infrastructure;
3. Physical and digital infrastructure;
4. Regulatory and legal infrastructure; and
5. The financial infrastructure.
