Rhino Poacher Up For Sentencing

A Bulawayo man, Greaters Nyoni will be on 27 March appear for sentencing after he was convicted by Beitbridge Magistrate facing a charge of hunting protected animals.
The accused person, in connivance with four other persons hunted and killed a black rhinoceros.
On 14 July 2022, Greaters Nyoni in connivance with Prince Mudenda, James Tapoka, and Spencer Mharadzo who have since been convicted and sentenced to nine years imprisonment, and President Oswell Musekiwa, hunted a black rhino at Bubye Valley Conservancy in Beitbridge.
According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) the team killed the rhino using a 375 rifle which belonged to Nyoni before they dehorned it using an axe
The offense was discovered by the game scouts and an empty cartridge of 375 was recovered and the report was made to the police.  The rhino horns were sold in Harare.
On 26 March 2023, Prince Mudenda was arrested for the offence and implicated the accused person leading to the arrest.
The value of rhino was USD120.000 and nothing was recovered.
