All-Female Artists Awards Zimbabwe (AFAAZ) first edition is set for March 27 in Harare aimed on the emancipation of female artists by recognizing and honoring the remarkable contributions of women in various artistic fields, the event coincides with the International Women’s Month.
With a career spanning two decades in the arts sector, Sarah Dhliwayo, the founder of the awards, said she noted that women were not getting the recognition they deserved and the representation of women in the art industry.
The awards will feature 53 categories, encompassing a wide range of artistic disciplines such as painting, sculpture, photography, music, dance, theatre and literature and seven honorary awards to female legends, who have made a significant difference in the arts sector, will be handed over at the event.
Speaking to this publication Dhliwayo highlighted that “I have personally witnessed the immense talent and dedication of countless female artists who have often been overlooked or under-represented in the industry. The awards will provide a platform for these talented women to shine and be celebrated for their exceptional contributions.
We also want to recognize and pay tribute to the pioneering women who have paved the way for future generations of artists, their contributions have been invaluable and deserve to be celebrated”.
The event will not only provide a platform for female artists to showcase their work but also foster a sense of unity and support among women in the industry, on the 23rd there is going to be a Run and Zumba at Longchen Plaza, a video shoot on the 24th the Grand day for the awards and the aim is to make this an annual event, especially in the month of March, as we get to celebrate women internationally and nationally.
