The MultiChoice Africa and Africa Magic 10th edition of the Annual Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award has been set for the 10th and the 11th of May, it has been established.

MultiChoice Zimbabwe Head Corporate Affairs and Public Relations Manager Charity Njanji said the prestigious awards competition would have as head judge for 2024 famed film-maker, director, producer and pioneer Academy Director of the MultiChoice Talent Factory in Lagos, Femi Odugbemi.

“The AMVCAs are popular and widely followed across Africa, including here in Zimbabwe, and we are pleased to see that plans are advanced for the staging of the latest edition, which promises another tribute to the talent in the world of film across the continent,” she said.

“The choice of Femi Odugbemi to lead the jury is also good news, especially as it reaffirms the high standing and major contribution of the MultiChoice Talent Factory initiative.”

Mrs Njanji said the AMVCA concept had established itself as the benchmark for excellence in the African film industry and each awards event was not only a celebration of excellence in film-making, but also an activity that improved careers and boosted talent development on the continent.

Entries have been received from across Africa, for which shortlisting has started and soon after will come the judging phases.

Changes have been made to award categories, with winners of the best actor, best actress, best-supporting actor and best supporting actress categories now determined by the jury.

Mrs Njanji said the organisers and sponsors – Amstel, Pepsi, Promasidor and Martell – had called on DStv viewers across Africa to join in the celebration, starting with the announcement of final nominees in each category.

“This will be done live across all Africa Magic channels at 8 pm on Sunday, March 24, immediately after which the voting portal will open,” she said.

The two-day awards event will start with the Young Filmmakers and Content Creators event on the morning of May 10, followed by the Cultural Day and Opening Night celebration and the Main Awards Ceremony on May 11.

Mrs Njanji said the head judge had described the AMVCAs as ‘celebrated for an unwavering dedication to excellence.’

“He also said the jury would be steadfast in ensuring that only the most outstanding works earned a spot on the nomination list,” she said.

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is an annual set of accolades presented by MultiChoice to recognise outstanding achievements in film and television production in Africa.
