By The Amalgamated Rural Teachers of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) is concerned about the Heritage-Based Education Curriculum proposed by the government for the period 2024 to 2030.
The curriculum undermines the intended goals. The reduction of Continues Assessment Learning Activities (CALA) has been promised, the organization calls for infrastructure development in rural schools as it has been promised.
“We are clamoring for improved welfare for the teachers and technological investment has been promised. The fundamental pillar for successful curriculum implementation is the presence of motivated teachers, however, the government’s plan remains silent on the crucial aspect”, said the statement.
Teachers need proper motivation to effectively deliver the curriculum, for improving the quality of education to the children. The worries are about the outlined priorities.
The statement said, “Instead of addressing critical needs within the education sector, such as teacher training and resources, the focus seems to be directed towards infrastructure development in farms. This misalignment raises questions about the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education”.
The government is encouraged to cater to the needs of learners, teachers, and parents must be consulted with these stakeholders. The government proposed a curriculum that lacks evidence of broad-based engagement, the curriculum fails to address the diverse needs and aspirations of those within the education.
The proposed curriculum falls short in addressing the needs of learners with disabilities. Without qualified teachers who are equipped to teach and support these learners effectively, we are further disadvantaged.
