Biti Fined US$ 300 For Assaulting Russian Investor

Tendai Biti has been fined US$300 in a case in which he was accused of assaulting a Russian Investor Tatiana Aleshina.
The courts have also sentenced him to a wholly suspended six months on the condition that he does not commit any crime.
The former Finance Minister had been on trial for verbally assaulting the Russian woman.
The Russian Investor Tatiana Aleshina said the conviction was a win for every womwn in Zimbabwe.
“Tendai Biti was spared jail on a charge of assault for calling her “stupid”. She claims that the conviction is a Zimbabwean woman’s victory”
Alec Muchadehama who was representing Biti had this to say, “The former Harare East Member of Parliament’s conviction was for assault. He called a Russian Investor “stupid” in 2020. He was accusing her of interfering in the gallery during the court hearing”.
