Self-styled opposition politician Job Sikhala escaped yet another lengthy time in prison after he was handed a wholly suspended nine-month sentence today.
Sikhala appeared before Harare Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka, who fined Sikhala US$500 and made it clear that the accused risked going back to jail for two months for failure to pay the fine in time.
The politician, who spent over 500 days in remand prison was convicted for publishing falsehoods after posting on his Facebook account that a police officer had killed a minor while enforcing road regulations sometime in 2020.
