A few days after being released from remand prison, Job Sikhala has not wasted any time and today, at a press conference, hinted at the formation of a new political party.
Being his first presser after his release, Sikhala took time to thank the citizens of Zimbabwe for standing with him during his time in prison.
He said, “Your love strengthened me throughout. I deeply understand the pain we shared during the period of my unmitigated oppression. I am prepared to pay any price for the love of my country; I am prepared to pay any price for the love of Zimbabwe,” said Sikhala.
He, however, noted that the country was in dire need of a way forward.
“Let me also thank members of the diplomatic corps from world democracies and Africa whose solidarity was priceless. I also want to thank the World Governments who remained alert to what transpired during my persecution,” read part of his statement.
He also noted that the country needs a way forward to answer the national question of where to from here which he said will only come to people through a Mass Nationwide Democratic Consultative Process
He said, “Action without vision is only passing time, vision without action is merely daydreaming, but vision with action can change the world”.
Sikhala hinted at the formation of a new democratic formation that resembles the UDF in South Africa.
“With or without resources, people shall carry out the most important task in the decisive phase of our history and our struggle against tyranny for their freedom, dignity and prosperity”, part of the statement reads.
