One of the world’s largest social media platforms TikTok has started muting sounds that are not owned by creators. The blitz commenced on Thursday last week after the video sharing app failed to reach an understanding with Universal Music Group.
TikTok is a platform that allows account users to often add short song clips to their videos to participate in viral trends and make the content more engaging. This is also useful for artists as their work attracts higher chances of going viral.
Following the recent developments, not only will users now be unable to make new videos with official snippets from UMG artists, previously published videos that contain music from the pulled catalog have gone silent.
