Sikhala Solidarity Movement Mourns Democracy

0

The Sikhala Solidarity Movement has called on all democratic campaigns to convene at the Harare magistrate court where the Judgement of the Sikhala case is expected to be handed out tomorrow.

Addressing Journalists during a press briefing in the capital, Darlington Chigwena, President Of The Human Solidarity Movement said that there was a deepening constitutional crisis which was heavily characterised by gross human rights violations.

”We call upon all citizens of Zimbabwe to wear black on this great day, mourning the death of democracy. We also emphasise that citizens should maintain peace and unity in the face of injustice and extreme provocation from the regime in Harare Court. Our position remains, that Job Sikhala is innocent and must be released.

“Sikhala’s Freedom will mark a new era in the history of Zimbabwe. The Movement will launch a protracted struggle to push back against authoritarianism on Freedom Day. It is now clear that the stronger the ruling party, the more intolerant it becomes, the weaker the opposition, the stronger the despotism. The dictatorship in Harare has to be confronted by a united front of all citizens so that Zimbabwe can be transformed into a democracy.

Job Sikhala, an MP in the opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) party, was arrested in June 2022 after attending the funeral of a political activist.
