The Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) will from now onwards go after unlicensed vehicles and these will not be allowed to go through any tollgate.
The latest development was made known by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Felix Mhona in a statement recently.
In an effort to enforce collection of fees, Zinara officials will have the right to deny unlicensed cars entry at tollgates.
“To enforce collection of all required fees, an authorized person shall be permitted to deny passage through a Tolling Point to any vehicle that has an expired or does not have a valid vehicle license in terms of the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act,” the statement read.
Mhona also warned drivers and individuals who are in the habit of vandalising Zinara infrastructure.
“A person who wilfully damages in any way of toiling infrastructure shall be responsible for replacement costs as determined by the Road Fund,” Minister Mhona said in the statement.
In another development, residents staying within 10km of a tollgate situated on an ordinary road and currently paying monthly toll fees of US$150 will enjoy a US$15 discount while those staying within a 10km radius of a toll gate on a premium road will be discounted US$20 of the US$200 monthly fee they are currently paying.
