A 20-year-old man from Ushewokunze in Harare appeared before a Harare Magistrate Faresi Chakanyuka for allegedly raping and impregnating his 13-year-old sister.
He was remanded in custody to January 12 for trial commencement.
Prosecuting, Anesu Chirenje alleged that sometime in April this year, at around 7 am, the complainant’s parents left home, as usual, going to work.
While the complainant was sweeping in the kitchen, her brother was sleeping in his bedroom and he called her to his room. The court heard that initially, the complainant refused but then decided to go to her brother’s room after he kept calling her.
On her way, she met her brother in the dining room who grabbed her, closed her mouth, and dragged her to his bedroom where he raped her. After the act, the accused person threatened to kill his sister if she ever disclosed the matter to anybody.
The matter came to light on November 22, when the complainant’s mother discovered that she was pregnant. Upon interrogation, she then revealed what had transpired. The parents then filed a report with the police that led to the arrest of the accused person.
