High Court Judge, Justice Esther Muremba has sentenced Pius Mukandi, also known as Jamba to 30 years in jail for the gruesome murder of Moreblessing Ali last year.
Jamba killed Ali in Nyatsime last year before dismembering the body. The remains were later discovered in a state of decomposition in a shallow well.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA) also confirmed the development through a statement.
“The state proved that the accused person murdered the deceased following a disagreement on the 24th of May 2022 at Chibhanguza Night Club in Nyatsime. An eyewitness last saw the deceased being dragged by the accused person by the hair. The deceased remains were found dumped in a disused well”, read the statement.
Mukandi was arrested on June 16, 2022, while he was on the run in Chidamoyo, Hurungwe, in the Mashonaland West Province. He voluntarily showed the police how he kidnapped, assaulted, and killed Ali.
He also led them to the scene where he dismembered her body and showed them the knife he allegedly used. Mukandi also led the police to recover Ali’s cell phone, jacket, trousers, shoes, and pants, which were presented as evidence.
Mukandi was convicted after a full trial; he was represented by Mr Garikayi Mhishi while Mr Micharl Mugabe and Mr Terrence Mukuze represented the State.
Although he tried to deny the charge in court, he was given away by the consistency in his confession and statements he gave to the police before trial.
