Mashonaland Central recorded 11 new suspected Cholera cases in a single day, this week, with Chidodo clinic in Mbire District admitting eight patients while Shamva, Bindura, and Centenary hospitals had one each.
Mashonaland Central Medical Director Dr Clemence Tshuma said, “Since March 2023, 232 suspected Cholera Cases have been recorded in the Province”.
He added, “The ministry implores the public to exhibit high levels of hygiene including the washing of hands after using toilets, before eating, and after. Health workers across the province will continue with community awareness campaigns against the bacterial disease”.
Of the 232 suspected Cholera cases recorded in the province, 27 were confirmed of which 13 of them succumbed to the diarrheal disease, four between October and to date.
Centenary has the highest number of recorded deaths, an astonishing five deaths followed by Bindura and Mbire sharing three deaths. Guruve and Mazowe have recorded single deaths each.
The provincial leadership led by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Captain (Rtd) Christopher Magomo is working tirelessly to establish Cholera treatment centers across the province.
Minister Magomo has implored the people of Mashonaland Central to maintain a clean environment for their health and safety.
The Minister has made it his habit to participate in all cleaning campaigns in the province since his inauguration.
