Ngarivhume’s Hearing Postponed Again

Transform Zimbabwe Leader Jacob Ngarivhume’s appeal case against a four-year prison sentence for inciting public violence which was postponed last week and was due to be heard today,  has been postponed again to Monday 11 December 2023.

His lawyer, Lovemore Madhuku told journalists at Harare High Court this morning that today’s postponement was necessitated by the illness of the state Council Mrs Nyahunzvi who could not make it to the court today. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) had not allocated another officer to handle the matter.

However, he made it clear that it had to be Monday.

“We had no option but to have the matter postponed, but it has to be Monday because I have a busy schedule. The court has ordered that another officer be allocated to take over the matter, so what it means is that Mrs Nyahunzvi is out of the picture now,” said Madhuku.

He however was very optimistic that his client would succeed and they have been encouraging him to be patient.

Madhuku added that his team was expecting the judgement on the same day.

Ngarivhume was arrested for inciting public violence on X (Twitter) where he urged people to join an illegal demonstration in July 2020
