Newly elected Kwekwe Mayor Albert Zinhanga and his deputy Janet Taruvinga have vowed loyalty to Citizens for Coalition Change president Nelson Chamisa following recalls of former Mayor Henry Madzorera and his deputy Melody Chingarande by imposter Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu.
The new mayor castigated the move by Tshabangu as retrogressive.
“The recall of councillors is not only a challenge to council operations but also a setback on the quest to promote women participation, it is saddening that the only female councillor who was duly elected has been recalled and this leaves a serious dent to the quest of promoting women in leadership roles.
“My mandate has already started and it will continue. l pledge to serve the residents and increase accountability to residents. The recall of councillors has stifled women’s participation,” said Zinhanga.
He added, “We have made contributions to the budget and we hope that the voice of the residents will be heard, we are also advocating permanent water solutions”.
