Gvt Gives Harare City One Week Ultimatum To Deal With Vendors

The government has given Harare City Council a one-week ultimatum to deal with vendors operating in undesignated areas or else risk government intervention.

Speaking during a cabinet brief in the capital this afternoon, the Minister of Health and Child Care  Honourable Douglas Mombeshora said after touring Kuwadzana which happens to be the Cholera hotspot in Harare, they were left convinced the government that something needed to be done urgently to curb the continued spread of the waterborne disease.

“We toured Kuwadzana which is giving us 40 percent of the cholera recorded cases. What we saw there was something else. Vendors are all over undesignated areas, with no water, and no toilets among other necessities. Can you just imagine what would happen at the end of the day?

“So as the government, we have tasked Harare City council to take action or else will come in as the government to deal with the vendors,” said Minister Mombeshora.

The minister also told the meeting that the distribution of chemicals and medication consignments that were acquired through Nat Pham has since started and they expect an improvement as far as dealing with cholera is concerned.
