All is set for next week’s World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) campaign to be being held in Zimbabwe.

This year’s event to be held in Zimbabwe comes on the backdrop of a similar event that was held in Senegal last year.  The campaign will run from the 18th of November to the 24th.

Dr Tinashe Hodobo of the Veterinary Service Department highlighted the importance of the forthcoming event.

“Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is a recurring program globally and we are expecting high-level delegates from various organizations,” he said.

“We have several activities lined up, debates by students from Zambia and locally, media sensitisation and a soccer match on Sunday then on Monday Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Water and Rural Resettlement Anxious Masuku and other delegates will give welcome remarks.”

Antimicrobial agents including antibiotics have saved millions of lives, substantially reducing the burden of diseases in people and animals, improving quality of life and better food security.
