High Court Postpones Rushwaya’s Sentencing To Tomorrow

0

The High Court has postponed the sentencing of Zimbabwe Miners Federation president and former Zifa Chief Executive Officer Henrietta Rushwaya tomorrow at 2:30.

The former Zimbabwe football Iron Lady was convicted last week on charges of attempting to smuggle 6kg of gold through the VIP route at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in 2020.

Rushwaya was remanded in custody after her conviction by the Anti-Corruption Court at the High.

Rushwaya, who was heading to Dubai when she was arrested at the Robert Mugabe International Airport on October 26, 2020, allegedly had four small bars of pure gold.

She pleaded not guilty. The matter was built on the fact that Rushwaya was caught with the gold in her bag and failed to proffer a valid export permit.

It is alleged that she also presented a bogus invoice and packing list from a company called Ali Japan 786 when she was arrested.

Rushwaya denied the charge, highlighting that she had picked the wrong bag.

That was, however, dismissed by Justice Pisirayi Kwenda, highlighting that her defence was implausible.
