Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Douglas Mombeshora says the country is ready to host the International Conference on Aids and STIs in Africa (ICASA) to be held in Harare and Victoria Falls next month.
During a press conference in Harare on Wednesday, the government was proud to be hosting the conference for the second time in the past 22 years.
“We are now less than a month away from hosting ICASA and we are very proud that Zimbabwe will be hosting this very important conference.
“All our systems from security, banking, accommodation, transportation and others have been checked and tested and I want to assure our visitors that Zimbabwe is ready,” Mombeshora said.
“We have requested importation of additional power should we get to ICASA with persistent power challenges. We currently have units 7 and 8 under maintenance now and they are producing over 1000 megawatts,’’ said Mombeshora.
Cholera will not pose a threat to ICASA, “It is now under control. Yes, we have had some worrying incidents in the past weeks but now the cases are dropping and the recovery rate has increased,” he said.
ICASA president David Parirenyatwa said the country was ready to host the event. “Zimbabwe is now so ready, right from governmental level to the Ministry of Health and Child Care and National Aids Council”.
The conference will be held in Zimbabwe from December 4 to 9 this year.
