The Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ) has launched a spotlighting event to promote media ethics and professionalism and unveiled the State of Media, Ethics and Professionalism report book in Harare today.
The board addressed the issue of plagiarism, sexual harassment especially to female journalists, bribes, misinformation and disinformation, safety of journalist in political areas.
Zimbabwe Women Against Corruption Trust (ZWACT), Sandra Matendere said, “Professional and ethical journalism is essential in strengthening democracy, promoting transparency, accuracy and verified news by reducing the spread of fake news”.
Media corruption has degraded the profession henceforth journalist should adhere to their media laws and ethics while practicing.
Alpha Media Holdings (AMH), Chief editor Kholwani Nyathi emphasized that, “ All of us should fight against bribery, its a collective measure which reporters and editors should adhere”.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi said that, the media industry should engage with the police to ensure journalists safety and Zimbabwe Media Commission urged to revise their accreditation procedures.
