Zim Needs To Focus On Biodiversity Economy: Matondi

The Wildlife Economy is one of the high-level and global significance of the biodiversity economy in Zimbabwe which has a positive impact on various sectors.

The country is facing multiple challenges associated with the rising need for communities to develop and invest in the wildlife sector.

Speaking at the Wildlife Economy workshop held in Harare today Secretary for Environment, Climate and Wildlife Prosper Matondi emphasized the need to focus on biodiversity economy.

” Biodiversity and ecosystem services are particularly important supporting agriculture, energy, tourism and technology which are key economic pillars henceforth there is a need for dialogue and engagement on the biodiversity economy and more specifically the wildlife sector to ensure there are relevant to current trends to the social economic environment “.

Wildlife contributes US$ 250 million to the Zimbabwean economy and Safari hunting generates substantial foreign exchange and provides direct employment for the local population.
