Chinhoyi Residents pressed the panic mode button after the town recorded and confirmed its first cholera case while three others were suspected to be suffering from the same disease.
In a public notice Chinhoyi Municipality Public Relations Department notified residents that one cholera case was recorded while three other cases were still suspected to be suffering from the same diseases at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital yesterday.
“The Municipality of Chinhoyi gives a warning to the residents and stakeholders that we have had a cholera outbreak. We have recorded one confirmed case and three suspects which are being monitored at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital.
In its statement, the council implored residents to stick to laid down protocols which will help in stopping the spread of the deadly disease, that is, washing hands before consuming food, eating food whilst it’s still hot, ensuring that all food handling processes are being done hygienically, ensure that they correctly dispose waste and that all water containers for storing water are clean and properly lidded among other protocols.
The council warned all those who have diarrhoea to report to the nearest health facility.
Of late, several towns have since recorded outbreaks of cholera rendering the whole country into panic mode.
The deadly disease started in Murambinda a month ago and it has been spreading like a veld fire.
The country has so far recorded 5964 suspected cholera cases, 1055 confirmed cases, 5696 recoveries, and 123 suspected deaths in October.
The outbreak has now spread to more than 17 traditional districts
