Candidates from various political parties successfully filed nomination papers ahead of the 9 December by-elections, this publication can reveal.
Constituencies that have by-elections became vacant after Citizen Coalition for Change interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu recalled Members of Parliament, Senators and councillors in Bulawayo, Gwanda, Beitbridge, Hwange, Masvingo and Harare.
Speaking to this publication from his Bulawayo base, one of the recalled candidates confirmed that most of his colleagues had already successfully filed their papers and he was on his way to the same.
“Like I said yesterday, we can’t leave the political space vacant, most of our candidates have successfully filed their papers. I was just delayed but I am actually on my way to file my papers too,” said the candidate.
A source within CCC ranks confirmed to this publication that CCC president Nelson Chamisa signed for the candidates that are set to take part in the upcoming by-elections.
“As CCC, our president Nelson Chamisa is the only candidate who has powers to sign our nomination court papers, so he is the one who did that,” said the source.
In Harare, the battle for Mabvuko continued with Scott Sakupwanya’s representative successfully filling his papers at Rotten Row Courts in the morning, while another candidate, Changu Chimutu Chakapinda Chapinda president David Chitimbe joined the race but later fell by the wayside after failing to raise US$1000 required.
CCC candidate Munyaradzi Fibion Kufahakutizwe at some point returned to bring more papers, but later came back and filed his papers.
