A 35-year-old woman from Shamva has been arrested for beating her nine-year-old daughter to death after she took a mealie meal and cooking oil for their children’s play.
The mother, Sinalence Kufandirori, has since been arrested.
Posting on their X account, the police said, “Police in Shamva have arrested Sinalence Kufandirori (35) in connection with a case of murder in which she hit her daughter, Ropafadzo Meki (9) with a switch, all over the body, for allegedly using mealie meal and cooling oil to play mahumbwe on 03/11/23 at Maxton Farm.’’

Kufandirori was arrested at Maxton Farm on Saturday.
The nine-year-old child who met her death at the hands of her mother is said to have taken mealie meal and cooking oil to play mahumbwe resulting in her mother beating her up with an electric cable.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the case and urged the public to respect human sanctity.
“We have a sad incident that occurred in Shamva where a 35-year-old woman, Sinalence Kufandirori beat her nine-year-old daughter to death accusing her of using cooking oil and mealie meal to play mahumbwe on the 3rd of this month at Maxton Farm. This is so sad, so as the Police we want to implore the public to respect the sacredness of human life,’’ he said.
Legislators have also raised alarm over the increase in murder cases country-wide and have called for stiffer penalties on perpetrators.
