Twenty-six-year-old truck driver Edison Kazingizi was arrested by Beitbridge police in connection with unlawful possession of drugs at Beitbdrige Border Post.
The incident happened on the 27th of October 2023.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) commented on the matter on their X account on how the man was arrested for the unlawful possession of drugs
“On 26 October 2023, Police in Beitbridge arrested an MNH truck driver, Edison Kazingizi (26) at Beitbridge Border Post in connection with unlawful possession of 48x100ml of Benylyn Codeine, 50x 100 mls Adyco Salterpyn and 50×100 mls Broncleer Cough Syrup,” the police said.
They went on to say, “The contraband was hidden in the truck which was carrying drums containing oil from South Africa.
“Meanwhile, on 28 October 2023, detectives in Masvingo acted on the received information and arrested Ammon Matarutse (27), Tinashe Matore (19) and Tatenda Mahachi (30) in connection with unlawful possession of twists of dagga, 3x100ml Adcorsalterpyn, 3×100 ml Stilpane Cough Syrup, 3×100 ml Benylyn Cough Syrup and 3×100 ml Broncleer Cough Syrup.’’
In a different case, Police in Harare are also investigating a case of infanticide in which a baby girl (approximately two months) was found dead at Shawasha Grounds, opposite Pioneer Cemetery in Mbare on 29 October 2023.
The body was found in a carrier bag and was wrapped with a baby blanket.
Police have pleaded with the general public to assist with information on the matter or report the matter at the nearest police station.
