Zimbabwe is once more getting ready to host the world’s most exciting festival, The Vic Falls Carnival, which returns this year in 2023 for a once-in-a-lifetime long weekend experience from the 28th of April – 30th of April 2023.

Past carnivals have seen the biggest celebration of Africa’s diverse music, arts and culture in Zimbabwe and Zambia, two twin countries which naturally share by boarder lines and geography the 7th wonder of the world the majestic Victoria Falls also known locally known as Mosi oa Tunya, meaning the Smoke that Thunders, and 28 – 30 April 2023 is promising as show organisers confirmed with TechnoMag that tickets are selling like hotcakes and everyone is encouraged to “Get tickets for #VFC2023!”

Speaking exclusively to TechnoMag, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) Head Corporate Affairs Chief Godfrey Koti said Victoria Falls is one of the world’s wonders because of its natural beauty, cultural diversity and adrenaline packed activities. Chief Koti mentioned that the holistic experience in Victoria Falls is what makes it worth visiting one of the reasons why the world should take a look at why Victoria Falls is worth visiting and going on your to-do list.

“We are working to increase the participation this year from both the local, regional and international market,” said Chief Koti.

“We use the carnival to raise awareness on various issues that include destination Zimbabwe in its totality and the conservation activities that are being done around the country.

“This is good for Victoria Falls because it increases our room stays and the nights spent in the destination. So we are hoping to increase the quantum of reciepts from that particular area during that time,” the ZTA Head Corporate Affairs revealed to TechnoMag.

“This year we are excited to hear that there is a very good line up of entertainment acts and activities. It really gives the industry players increased business and that is what we are looking for as the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

“As we continue also to celebrate the awards that we have gotten on the international scene where we were named the destination of the year and the Minister was awarded the Minister of the year whilst our CEO (ZTA CEO) was named the professional destination manager of the year,” added Chief Koti.

“These are good things that are happening to the sector. They endorse our work and they endorse the destination in such a big way. So we are very excited to be having such an event at such a time.”

The word Carnival traditionally comes from the Late Latin expression carne levare, which means “remove meat”; a folk etymology derives it from carne vale, “farewell to meat”. In either case, this signifies the approaching fast.

Carnival representative Bongani Ngwenya also added his voice, “The Victoria Falls carnival team is excited about the prospects of this year’s event from a business creation perspective to the Tourism sector.

“Last year we had four thousand people that came to witness the 2022 addition of the carnival and this year tickets are selling at a very fast pace and we believe that we will surpass last year’s numbers,” said Ngwenya.

“We have also partnered with tourism players in making sure that they are purchasing packages and we put those packages in place to make sure the center benefits also from this event and there is a downstream benefit on all the players that are taking part in this year’s carnival.

“We are also elated to note that we have had a very good response from the corporate world in terms of support and the creation of that downstream business network is looking very very good for this year and we are very happy so to speak.

“We are looking forward to the coming weeks as we get into the carnival for 2023.”

The Victoria Falls Carnival is promising to surpass four thousand visitors from last year and therefore will not be an ordinary party. According to ZTA, it will be a 3-day action-packed event filled with party trains, booze, action-packed activities and many other captivating thrilling encounters. Already last year’s event grew the economy, considering accomodation was paid for, many Zimbabweans in the accomodation industry hence benefitted, those who are in the food and beverage or booze liquor industry also benefitted from the four thousand who bought their food, ate and drank.

Those in the transport and fuel business also made a killing driving the tourists and this has certainly worked wonders for the Tourism thrust.

Chief Koti also added , “For us as Zimbabwe tourism, MICE was in action, ie
“Meetings
Incentives
Conferences
Exhibitions and events.”

Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions tourism is a type of tourism in which large groups, usually planned well in advance, are brought together. Also recently there has been an industry trend toward using the term “meetings industry” to avoid confusion from the acronym.

Chief Koti added, “This carnival works in line with that Mice tourism drive.”
