The ruling party Zanu PF yesterday disqualified the Harare Provincial Commissar (PC) Kudakwashe Damson from participating as a candidate in the upcoming primary elections.
Damson is facing allegations of contravening the Electoral Act by obstructing the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission proceeding.
He was an aspiring candidate for Epworth Constituency.
Addressing the media at the post -extraordinary Politburo session in Harare Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Christopher Mutsvangwa said, “The party cannot determine the criminality of a person but the courts, so we will await the justice system to guide us in decision making.
“We are going to conduct these elections peacefully. One candidate who had and altercation with the ZEC from Epworth was disqualified. This serves as an example of what our leaders is always saying against violence.
“We hope he will accept the decision. He still has future in the party and he is hard worker. The President stresses that the party is bigger than individual.” He said.
He further highlighted that the party is yet to announce the election date and also highlighted that they will soon avail the list of disqualified candidates.
Mutsvangwa also said approximately 99.9% of the candidates sailed through because the President said no one should be left behind except when a candidate had a criminal record.
