ICT Ministry, Potraz Commission 720 Computers In Rusape

The Ministry of ICT working hand in glove with Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) this week saw the Minister of ICT, Postal and Courrier Services Dr Jenfan Muswere commission 24 computer laboratories in Rusape, donating 720 computers in total, giving 30 Computers to each school.

Potraz Director General (DG) Dr Gift Callistos Machengete was represented by his Deputy Director General (DDG) as Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere travelled to every school in Rusape commissioning the 24 Computer Laboratories.

Minister Muswere reaffirmed government’s commitment to attain a digital economy and knowledge society, where all citizens have access to Information Communication Technologies (ICTs), regardless of their geographical, social, or economic status.

Minister Muswere exclusively told TechnoMag that, “Learning and training of the learners in terms of digital skills, digital skills are more important in the context of the fourth industrial revolution because be it agriculture power generation, road construction, dam construction, be it any other project in any other area, the common denominator is information communication technology.”

Covid-19 pandemic since it’s inception in early 2020 brought challenges that amplified the call for universal access to ICTs and the use of digitally based platforms.

The Minister of Information, Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services in conjunction with Postal Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) DDG on Monday officially commissioned computer laboratories at 24 schools in Rusape.

Officially commissioning the Tswatswa St Bede’s Primary School computer laboratory, ICT Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere said as government they will continue to play their critical role in digitizing all schools especially rural schools so they never lag behind their urban peers by ensuring the deployment of the ICTs infrastructure for all citizens, let alone children as young as primary going kids averagely aged 4 to 13 years old.

“So the presidential national e-learning strategy, is there to ensure we stimulate, we catalyze we accelerate the development of information communication technology across the country.

“An inclusive approach to ensure we bridge the urban rural divide this is precisely why we are here in the rural areas. So that we create equal Opportunities for the learners in Makoni, learners in Binga, learners in Mashonaland Central province, so that there is equitable and equal access and the digital tools that are very relevant in the context of a digital family,” said the Minister of ICT.

Muswere added that digital technology was important in facilitating the attainment of the aspirations of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), as enunciated by his boss and Principal, President Mnangagwa.

Muswere went on to explain how the digital economy was stated as one of the 14 national priorities underpinning the NDS1 strategy as the country thrives to become an upper-middle income society by 2030.
