ZIMNGOFORUM condemns political violence

The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum has condemned the assault unleashed on Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) staffers by ZANU PF activists in Epworth on 

Seven ZEC staffers were assaulted by ZANU-PF activists in the dormitory town for wearing yellow reflectors while conducting voter education.

ZIMNGOFORUM said that the staffers were bundled into a combi and assaulted by the activists led by Kudakwashe Damison, a ZANU-PF losing candidate in the 2018 polls before being dumped at Epworth Police Station.

In a statement,the organisation said thatv the assault on ZEC staffers was in violation of human rights and called for a through investigation to bring the culprits to book.

”Politically motivated violence is a violation of human rights & we urge the police to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book,”the ZIMNGOFORUM said.

 Zimbabwe has been marred by extreme political violence as the 2023 plebioscite draws closer with the main opposition being targeted by ZANU PF
