Botswana PresidentMokgweetsi Masisi has revealed that he will push for the scrapping of passport requirements for  travellers from Botswana and Zimbabwe countries when he meets with his Zimbabwean Counterpart President Mnangagwa.

Botswana news outlet ,The Parrot newspaper reported that President Masisi  would push for the use of national IDs for cross border travelling between the two countries.

“President Mokgweetsi Masisi has just revealed that in a few months, he will be meeting his Zimbabwean counterpart Emmerson Mnangagwa on a visit where he will make sure they discuss the use of identity cards for border crossing among the two countries.”,The Parrot reported.

Botswana has already embarked on an open border policy with Namibia after signing an MOU  that will see both nations  accepting each other’s national identity cards for use in cross-border business and tourism travel for stays up to 90 days.

Nationals of each country can present this card to enter the other country without a passport.

The card also serves as proof of immigration status for business travelers. This change is meant to increase the economic and regional connectivity of the two nations to further encourage orderly migration.
