The World Boxing Council (WBC) Interim super bantamweight Champion Kudakwashe Chiwandire has declared herself ready for the biggest match of her life when she faces the reigning WBC absolute bantamweight Champion Yamileth “Yeimi” Mecardo in Chihuahua,Mexico next week.
Take Money as she is fondly known said that t she is unfazed by the challenge that lies ahead when she faces Mercado in her home turf.
The champion and challenger came face to face and greeted each other, on Zoom, on big screens in front of an appreciative audience gathered at the Martes a Cafe in Hacienda de Cortes in Coyocan, to mark the WBC International Woman’s day Commemorations.
When asked about the prospect of coming into the Lioness` Den for this challenge Kudakwashe said that she was not intimidated by her opponent .
“In Africa we eat lions for breakfast!,”said Chiwandire
Chiwandire won the interim World Boxing Council super bantamweight title by defeating Zambian fighter Catherine Phiri,a former WBC world champion in February 2022.
Chiwandire showed better technique dominating Phiri almost all the fight, who at the end of 10 rounds showed the marks of combat on her face.
Take Money then defeated Mexican Zelina Munoz by unanimous-decision in Harare to retain her WBC interim Super Bantamweight title.
A win in Mexico will see Take Money becoming the first female pugilist from Zimbabwe to hold the WBC World title.
