Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has announced plans to rebrand the Municipal Police to Metropolitan Tourism Police Force.
Speaking during the official launch of Chenesa Harare Mafume announced the plan to rebrand the Municipal Police and highlighted that the police force will be responsible for maintaining order, discipline and cleanliness in the City.
“We are going to be reforming and rebranding our Municipal police into a Metropolitan Tourism Police. Our Police has been called Municipal Police for quite a period of time we will discuss with our Chambers Secretary that we need to rebrand the Municipal Police within the confines of the Law to become a Metropolitan Tourism Police Force.
“Now this Police Force will ensure that there is order discipline and cleanliness in the city of Harare. We shall be endeavouring capacitate them to be able to follow people who litter day and night.
Mafume added that the Metropolitan Tourism Police Force will also enforce the anti-litter by laws.
“There will be also enforcement of anti-litter by laws by the Municipal Police and the fining of shops without requisite number of bins. What we are going to do is that we do have municipal by laws that deal with the issues of littering just like other countries that fines people that litter the city.
