Nokia has revealed plans to launch a new logo for its network equipment business to separate itself from the consumer mobile phone brand.
In an interview with Reuters, on the eve of the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Nokia’s President and CEO Pekka Lundmark said, there was the association to smartphones and nowadays we are a business technology company.
“We want to launch a new brand that is focusing on network and industrial digitalisation. This is completely different from being a mobile phone brand.”
The brands new logo comes alongside a set of new strategic goals which are reset, accelerate, and scale.
Currently, they are at the beginning of the second stage having recently completed the reset stage.
The new logo comprises five different shapes forming the word NOKIA. Gone also is the iconic blue-coloured logo that is now substituted with white to help it blend seamlessly with a wider range of colours.
Nokia’s move toward factory automation and data centres will also see them locking horns with big tech companies, such as Amazon and Microsoft.
Lundmark also noted that Nokia is now prioritising efforts to gain market share in the wireless service provider sector, by offering network equipment that is competitive in both price and quality.
This has been aided by restrictions on Huawei, a key Chinese rival, which has been blocked from selling 5G network components in several European countries and the US.
