The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, (POTRAZ) has approved an industry-wide 50% tariff increase with immediate effect and another 50% effective 07 April 2023 for products and services.

The upward tariff reviews are meant to align internet service providers’ operating costs with the current inflationary operating environment.

Internet Service Provider, Liquid Intelligent Technologies has already embraced the tariff announcement in a statement

“This notice serves to inform you that the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, “POTRAZ”, has approved an industry-wide 50% tariff increase with immediate effect and another 50% effective 07 April 2023 for products and
services.

“The inevitable price changes are due to the current operating environment, which has seen the business costs growing at a rate poised you out space service delivery,”

“As Liquid Intelligent Technologies, we acknowledge the impact this will have on you as our valued customer, and we remain committed to continuously improve on our service delivery and enhance customer
experience,” the statement read.

According to the mobile network operators, Zimbabwe’s data tariffs are below regional benchmarks however the issue is not so much so about comparison of other regions but it is an issue of affordability.

As Zimbabweans, our buying power has been diminished to a point that we can’t afford basic stable data as the pricing does not commensurate with our earnings.
