CCC Dismisses Gokwe Violence Allegations

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has dismissed claims that CCC members attacked Zanu PF members in Gokwe.

CCC National Party Spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere took a tweet to refute allegations by the ruling party Director for Information Tafadzwa Mugwadi.

It is alleged that Zanu PF members were attacked by CCC members whilst attending a voter registration mobilisation and awareness meeting.

In response to Mugwadi’s tweet, Mahere highlighted that CCC got cleared by the Zimbabwe Republic Police to hold a rally at Mutora Business Centre.

“Be honest. Zanu thugs tried to violently gain entry into the venue we booked for a rally which was cleared by @PoliceZimbabwe. At least 5 of our security personnel were injured trying to keep the peace. ZRP had to disperse your members cause we had the legal right to be there.

She went on to argue that, the violence was instead caused by Zanu PF members.

“This is false. The violence was caused & committed by @ZANUPF Official thugs who trespassed at a CCC rally…..”

“We condemn the unlawful, violent attack on our members by Zanu PF thugs at our Gokwe Nembudziya Rally yesterday…..We want elections not war!”

The ZRP yesterday issued a statement announcing that they managed to arrest one suspect in connection with the Gokwe Violence.

“The ZRP confirms that investigations are being conducted in connection with the political violence incident which occurred at Nembudziya Government High School grounds on 12 February 2023.

“One suspect has been arrested as the investigations continue.”
