One Suspect Nabbed Over Gokwe Violence

The Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) has announced that they have arrested one suspect in connection with the Gokwe violence that took place over the weekend

In a statement, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi highlighted that the ZRP are still conducting investigations on the matter.

“The ZRP confirms that investigations are being conducted in connection with the political violence incident which occurred at Nembudziya Government High School grounds on 12 February 2023.

“One suspect has been arrested as the investigations continue.”

Nyathi added that they are also carrying out investigations in connection with another public violence that took place on the same date in Chivi.

“The ZRP is also investigating the circumstances which led to public violence during a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally at Chivi open grounds in Masvingo Province on 12 February 2023.

“More details to follow,” said Nyathi.

However it is alleged that Zanu PF members were attacked by CCC members whilst attending a voter registration mobilisation and awareness meeting.

The ruling party condemned the attack which it blamed on the CCC.
