ZEC Hands Over Final Delimitation Report To Mnangagwa

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba has handed over ZEC’s final report on the delimitation of constituency boundaries to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Addressing journalists after the handover at State House this afternoon Chigumba highlighted that the Commission is proud with the work that they have done in as far as delimitation of constituency boundaries is concerned.

Chigumba added that the Commission is an expert body in the delimitation process with a traceable track record.

“We have done a perfect job with our Delimitation report with a traceable track record of 2007-2008 Delimitation.”

However, ZEC’s preliminary report received criticism from various stakeholders, political parties and Parliament saying the alleged erroneous methodology used to calculate the variance potentially discredits the delimitation process.

The Adhoc Parliamentary  Committee said the Report failed to meet Constitutional Values and Principles and  also noted that the formula or the criteria used as the justification of the decisions made were not provided.

The observations of the Committee was that there was possible misinterpretation by ZEC of the 20% variance provision of (6) as some wards /constituency ended up with a variance of up to 40%.
