The Zambezi River Authority has announced that Lake Kariba water levels are rising rapidly as Zambia and Zimbabwe pins hopes on th giant dam to resume power generation at full capacity to ease power outages.

According to the latest update by the ZRA,the lake level has been rising due to an increase in local rainfall activity on and around the lake as the country continues to record heavy rains.

“The lake level has been rising due to an increase in Local rainfall activity on and around the lake. The period under review closed at 476.53m (7.13%),”ZRA said.

The latest development on the largest man made dam in Africa, has brought hope to many Zimbabwean and Zambians who have endured long hours of loadsheding since power generation was reduced last year.
.
The water level in man-made Lake Kariba, between Zambia and Zimbabwe, dropped to below 1% as the year ended, a situation that led to both countries rolling out loadshedding hours.

Zambia and Zimbabwe both have their own power station on the north and south bank of the dam, with a generating capacity of 1050 megawatts and 1080 megawatts respectively, but both countries have seen their generating capacity reduced to less than 400 megawatts because of low lake levels.
