The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has revealed that it has connected over 1,153 schools since last year as part of the National E-Learning Strategy.
The revelation was made by the POTRAZ director Dr Gift Machengete in his key note address to mark the official launch of the schools laboratories in the Bulawayo Metropolitan province on Friday.
The POTRAZ boss said that a large number of the school computer labs were commissioned in 2022 alone and the program was still ongoing as the telecommunications regulator in partnership with the Ministry of ICT ,Postal and Courier services seeks to enhance learning and teaching processes through the National E-Learning drive.
“The last year alone we have managed to do 1 117 schools,that is the schools which we resourced with equipment and those which we managed to connect,a whooping 1 117 schools in one year,”he said
The Ministry of ICT,Postal and Courier services has embarked on a nationwide e -learning drive which has seen the ICT Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere donating hundreds of computers benefiting thousands of students across the country.
The initiative has seen each school being given 30 laptops.The beneficiaries of the initiative are also being connected to free internet for a whole year as part of the government’s efforts towards the attainment of a digital economy and a knowledgeable society.
