Norton Independent Lawmaker Temba Mliswa has described the arresting of a 67-year old suspect in connection with the Murehwa violence as an insult.

Mliswa on his micro-blogging social media platform emphasised that the youths were the ones that assaulted the old people, not the other way round and those youths must be arrested instead.

“Now what is this! @PoliceZimbabwe have arrested a 67 year old man over the Murehwa violence is actually an insult. From the video it’s very clear that those were youths whoasulted the old people. We need the police to arrest those Border Gezi youths first!” said Mliswa.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday confirmed the arrest of a suspect who is alleged to be part of the gang that was involved in the politically motivated violence that rocked Murehwa last week.

Violence reared its ugly head in Murehwa last week after suspected ZANU PF youths brutally attacked elderly Citizens Coalition for Change supporters who had gathered for a meeting.

”The ZRP confirmed the arrest of one of the suspects, Never Chimutashu (67) who is expected to appear in court in due course,” said Nyathi.

The victims of the violence have since been identified as Chipo Mutizwa (37),Beauty Chiko (52), Nyaradzai Chitauro(52),Sekuru Dongo (79) and his wife Mbuya Dongo as well as Baba and Mai Seremano whom have since been treated of the injuries sustained in the barbaric attack.

A video of the brutal assault on the opposition supporters went viral on social media sparking nationwide condemnation with the opposition piling up pressure on the police to investigate matter.

Meanwhile the Zimbabwe Republic Police has said that investigations are currently under way to bring the other suspects to justice.
