The Zimbabwe Cricket has expressed delight over former England batsman Gary Ballance’s decision to quit county cricket and play for his country of birth.Balance has signed a contract to play domestic and international cricket in and for Zimbabwe.
ZC Director of Cricket Hamilton Masakadza said that the coming on board of Gary Ballance was a welcome development as the country gears up for the World Cup qualifiers next year.
“We are elated to have Gary, an immensely talented and experienced cricketer, back home where it all started for him.He is a great addition to our domestic and international set-up and we are looking forward to him making a massive difference for us.”he said.
Ballance was born and raised in Zimbabwe, and represented the country at the Under 19 Cricket World cup in 2006.
After representing Zimbabwe at the 2006 Under-19 World Cup, Gary Ballance switched to England in pursuit of better opportunities and played 23 Tests and 16 ODIs for the Three Lions.
The 33 year old left handed batsaman said that he was relishing the prospects of representiung the Chevrons at National level.
”I’m thrilled to be joining Zimbabwe Cricket and can’t wait to start work with some great coaches and talented players, The opportunity to represent Zimbabwe has given me a new-found passion and excitement for the game.” Ballance said.
