ZETDC On An Aggressive Revenue Collection Agenda

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has embarked on an aggressive revenue collection agenda to boost revenue for earmarked projects.

After recently launching their National contact centre a 24/7
Customer support service centre, for support, ZETDC signalled how they are taking customer issues seriously .

According to a ZETDC official, “It is embarking on many strategic projects such as grid expansion, reinforcement and rehabilitation and customer centricity projects.”

The parastatal intends to accomplish all this through rigorous customer engagement programmes countrywide as it ups the tempo on its aggressive revenue collection agenda.

The Official exclusively revealed to TechnoMag that they have even gone extreme to achieve this agenda by disconnecting any customers who are not paid up and worse not complying with any payment plan they will have made with clients.

Having informed their clients prior via official notices to regularize any outstanding payments or have payment plans, the institution is now activating extra measures for collection.

All its five regions are going around collecting revenue and also disconnecting non paying customers.

ZETDC is importing part of its electricity requirements from Mozambique and Zambia to increase the power supply. This has been seen even after Zimbabwe “President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is expected to Commission Hwange Unit 7&8 which is yet to be opened by His Excellency the nation will definetely be informed at the appropriate time,” according to the official. This first power unit at Hwange which added 300 megawatts to the network is going a long way in reducing load-shedding a disease that has wreaked havoc in the Second Republic and is affecting most production by industry.

The official that was in contact with TechnoMag called on stakeholders to pay up their bills. The payment will enable ZETDC to operate the system, provide services and pay for its imports. Enough revenue will also enable the power utility to fund its operations.

The official said, “The company has obligations to fulfil including the

1. Import payments like Eskom, zesco, HCB and EDM.

2. Customer centricity projects to roll out including prepaid meter rollout which is targeting completion by next year.”

ZETDC’s objective is to generate income from all its debtors even if it means engaging, updating and conducting awareness programmes to address pertinent issues affecting the stakeholders, all over the country Including urban, rural areas and every region the power company is found.

ZETDC, in essence has embarked on a nationwide outreach to all its consumers and key stakeholders with the objective of collecting every cent it is owed by interacting with its customers, get to know them better and educate them on existing issues.

The power supply is the key enabler for Zimbabwe President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s vision 2030 of a middle income Economy. Electricity is critical in attaining the Presidents Vision 2030.

Now that we in Summer bringing the rainy season towards Christmas in a months time, it is a high demand season where the consumption of electricity peaks, mainly due to demands such as wheat, water heating, and space heating, and festivity programs. This is a crucial time where families always traditionally get together worldwide and not just in Zimbabwe.

The country’s demand has risen to about 1 850 megawatts. Last summer it was averaging between 1600 and 1 650 megawatts. This peak is due to the loading cost of wheat irrigation and this revenue collection is part of a number of interventions to augment internal generation with ZETDC’S imports which is very critical to offset only if the money intended to be collected is available.
