Citizens Coalition for Change Chitungwiza North Legislator Godfrey Sithole has been granted $300 000 bail after spending more than 145 days in prison on allegations of inciting public violence.
Sithole was jointly charged with CCC Zengeza West Legislator Job Sikhala and they were arrested on 14 June 2022.
However, Zengeza West legislator Sikhala remains behind bars.
In granting Sithole bail Harare Magistrate Marevanazvo Gofa said Sithole must report twice a week at St Mary’s Police Station. Not to interfere with the state witness and also surrender his passport to the clerk of court.
Sikhala and Sithole were arrested over a speech he allegedly gave over the death of slain CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali, whose mutilated body was found in a well 18 days after she went missing.
Previously the two were denied bail by the chief magistrate, Faith Mushure, who ruled they were likely to reoffend.
After the two were denied bail, they approached the High court, which turned down their appeal on the same grounds.
They then went back to the lower court seeking bail on changed circumstances but they were also denied bail for the fifth time.
